Is Your Prayer Life Powerful .... or Impotent?

We can not have a true relationship with God unless we communicate with Him.  That communication is called...Prayer.  In this post, you will read about two different types of prayer lives.  We all have one or the other.

To begin let's define a couple of key words in this lesson:

Powerful (Thesaurus.com) –
able, all-powerful, almighty, authoritarian, authoritative, capable, cogent, commanding, compelling, competent, controlling, convincing, dominant, dynamic, effectual, efficacious, energetic, forceful, forcible, impressive, in control, in the saddle, influential, mighty, omnipotent, overruling, paramount, persuasive, potent, preeminent, prevailing, puissant, robust, ruling, sovereign, stalwart, strapping, strengthy, sturdy, supreme, telling, upper hand, vigorous, weighty, wicked*, wieldy

Impotent (Thesaurus.com)  –
arid, depleted, desert, desolate, dry, effete, empty, fallow, fruitless, impotent, impoverished, infecund, infertile, parched, sterile, unbearing, uncultivable, unfertile, unfruitful, unproductive, waste

Everyone's prayer life falls within these two definitions.  We either have a Powerful prayer life or an Impotent one.  Take a look at your prayer life; which difinitions fits your communication with God?

Before we go any further in this lesson, one thing must be established:
That is….the Importance of a Daily Prayer Life!

We were created to have fellowship with God. There was no other part of creation that was given the privilege that human beings were given; which is fellowship, dialogue, and communication with the Creator.

Revelation 3:20“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” KJV

Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” KJV

We are commanded to pray!

Ephesians 6:18“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” KJV

1 Timothy 2:1“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;” KJV

Colossians 4:2“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” NIV

1 Thessalonians 5:17“Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly];” AMP

God answers prayer.
James 5:16“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” KJV

Jeremiah 33:3“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” KJV

FIVE THINGS PRAYER WILL DO!

1) Prayer gets your spirit closer to HIS!
When you pray, you are drawing close to God. When you get close to Him, you become more like Him.

James 4:8 “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” KJV

Philippians 3:10“[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]” AMP

“know” in Greek means to perceive, to be aware, to understand, being intimate.

2) Prayer changes your attitude.
You cannot remain under the presence of God and harbor hatred, envy, strife, etc. He is love, and when you pray, that love affects your thoughts and actions.

3) Prayer affects the enemy.
Your prayers have great impact on the kingdom of evil. By praying we have power over demons! Even the strongest demon must flee at the prayer of God’s people.

4) Prayer changes heaven. (II Kings 20)
Hezekiah prayed and changed the mind of God. He was to die and his prayer added 15 years to his life. Your prayers affect the way God deals with you and those you pray for.

5) Prayer affects others
Your prayers touch the hearts of others. Your prayers cause God to move to the needs of others. Some of them don’t pray for themselves and your prayer is the only thing that stands between them and the devil.

In the next post we will go more into detail about the different types of prayers that can be prayed and how they relate to one who is a believer.

We are living in the last days.  It is time that we have a Powerful prayer, so that we can have Powerful relationship with Jesus Christ!
