Are You Gonna Sink or Stay Focused?

This thought comes from a message that I preached a couple of weeks ago in Youth Service.

Matthew 14:25-31 (KJV)
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. (Peter was full of belief at this moment)
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

When you see those old friends again….. Are you going to sink or stay focused?
When you hear that music you used to listen to …..Are you going to sink or stay focused?
When thoughts come into your mind, to question what God told you to do…. Are you going to sink or stay focused?
When you allow yourself to get involved with that guy or girl….. Are you going to sink or stay focused?
When you start school in a few weeks and get busy with all the events and activities….. Are you going to sink or stay focused?
When people start mocking you because of the stand you take…..Are you going to sink or stay focused?

Peter was focused (full of belief) two verses before he sunk. What happened? He started allowing the stuff around him to take away what he knew he had. He no longer believed that what he had was real, because of the distractions.

There are a lot of things in this life to distract us. There are a lot of things in the life to get our eyes off of Jesus. But, we must stay focused. We must stay close to Him. We must stay prayed up. We must stay in the Word of God. We must keep our relationship fresh and new! We must continue to believe that what we have is real!

Staying focused on Jesus is something that we have to work at everyday. It has to be a daily decision that we make.

So, keep on keeping on! Have God-focused day!
